Corporate Apartments with a Communal Office Space

Situated in the charming village of Sandford-on-Thames, near the prestigious Oxford Science Park, this distinctive detached house, originally built in 1975, has been thoughtfully transformed over the years. Initially a single residence, the property was later divided by a local developer into eight individual apartments and one penthouse, spread across three well-designed floors.

Recently acquired by our client, the property now serves as a comfortable and convenient base for their employees visiting from US offices. It offers modern accommodation while retaining the character of its original construction, making it a unique and practical solution for extended stays.

Redesigning Apartments for Employee Stay

For this renovation, the primary focus was on converting the property into individual apartments that offer a serene, home-from-home experience for the client’s employees. Each apartment was meticulously designed and furnished, with every detail considered, from window treatments and furniture to bed linen and kitchen essentials. The interiors were crafted to reflect the client’s brand colours and finishes, ensuring a cohesive and modern aesthetic throughout.

The Design Solution

Additionally, we undertook the transformation of two of the nine apartments into communal spaces, including a shared living and office area, as well as a gym and meeting room.

This process involved reimagining the original bedrooms and bathrooms, reconfiguring kitchens, and installing custom cabinetry to create functional and inviting shared spaces that cater to the specific needs of the client’s workforce.

Lighting

Across the apartments, we installed pendant fittings with stylish oak and brass accents, enhancing the overall design schemes. New downlights were added in the communal areas and penthouse to improve light quality and ensure accurate colour temperatures. The penthouse features striking wall lights, complemented by practical task lighting and elegant decorative lamps throughout, creating a beautifully layered and inviting ambience.

Communal Office Space

Thoughtfully designed to reflect both comfort and functionality. The room features stylish oak and brass textures, designed to enhance focus and ambiance, while maintaining a modern aesthetic that echoes our clients brand identity. The meeting room serves as an inviting space for productive discussions, surrounded by the character and charm of this beautifully transformed residence.

Colour Scheme

The colour schemes were carefully curated, featuring light, neutral, and earthy tones, complemented by touches of brass and oak finishes to add warmth and texture. This design approach was intentionally chosen to echo the aesthetic of the company’s US offices, creating a cohesive brand experience. Each apartment was given its own distinctive colour palette, further enhanced by abstract artworks, ensuring a unique yet harmonious atmosphere throughout the property.

Flooring and Oak Finishes

The Karndean flooring was retained and patched where necessary during the renovation of communal spaces. We upgraded the carpets to a durable off-white commercial wool twist, replacing the previous grey cut pile, and incorporated oak accents to complement the design. In the living areas of each apartment, two-tone linear rugs with a subtle sheen were added to provide a touch of style and sophistication.
