London Design Week 2020 – by our Designer Cathy.

Now, I am usually one for colour, but this year I was drawn to the neutrals across various of the design showrooms. The use of texture and organic materials really caught my imagination.

I am a big lover of all things passementerie so visiting Samuel and Son’s is always a highlight for me. Their new Bali collection is focused upon using natural fibres such as jute, cotton and linen to create a variety of braids, ropes, tassels and embroidered tapes. They showcased several of the trimmings from the collection appliquéd onto the face of a curtain in fashioned stripes – demonstrating how you can create a pattern through just with trimming application.

This theme was also mirrored in the Manuel Canovas display at Colefax and Fowlers showroom. A multitude of vases were filled with stems of cotton buds and grasses, along with woven jute baskets housing rolled up wallpapers and cushions made from the latest fabrics. Imagine the juxtapose you could create by adding a ‘Bali’ trim to a Manuel Canovas lime green polyester satin cushion?! Just so many new design possibilities with a nod to the outdoors environment!
