A Contemporary Country Home

Oxfordshire

Following an ambitious two-year build, we brought this five-bedroom family home, set within an Oxfordshire village, to life as a contemporary country home balancing British heritage and modernity.

Designed in collaboration with Oakwrights and Sarsen Architects, the house reveals an instinct for mood, material and British craftsmanship at every turn.

Two Distinct Perspectives

At the heart of the project were two homeowners with two distinct design sensibilities. Rather than trying to meet in the middle, we worked with their different tastes, allowing each to guide the direction of the interiors on the upper and lower levels.

A commitment to British craftsmanship is evident throughout the interiors, working with a network of renowned makers and textile houses, combining fabrics from Lewis & Wood, GP & J Baker and Colefax & Fowler with furniture by Julian Chichester, William Yeoward and Tom Faulkner, alongside pieces by Vaughan Designs and Andrew Martin.

Open-plan Living

Within the open-plan living spaces, a double-height dining area features a statement crystal-and-bronze Arctic Pear chandelier by Ochre suspended from the landing above, directly over an antique dining table. A large window draws daylight deep into the room. As the light shifts during the day, it filters through the chandelier, scattering soft reflections across the room.

In the kitchen, soft, muted tones paired with the rustic character of natural oak beams create a spaces that feels effortlessly welcoming yet refined.

Across the upper floors, exposed oak beams set the tone, their warmth and sense of permanence guiding the interior scheme. Pattern and colour are used with confidence, giving each room its own identity.

The boot room with bold paneling, natural oak accents and a bespoke seat cushion upholstered in a delicate botanical fabric creates a considered and practical space.

Inspired by the incredible gardens, a natural palette of materials, print and finishes have been selected for the guest bathroom.

From ikat-style upholstery to bold prints and unexpected colour pairings, fabric choices play a defining role in the character of the interiors.

On the lower level, an entire wall is taken over by a bespoke ocean-inspired mural by the artist, Lynsey Cleaver, extending the full length of the space. The surrounding palette of rich timbers, umber tones and soft, upholstered seating lends the room a more tactile quality, while exposed pipework and clean architectural lines keep it firmly contemporary.

A balance of texture and tone, a Julian Chichester cabinet sits beautifully alongside a Crittall screen.

Design details with beautiful Colefax and Fowler fabric complemented by a textured chest of drawers from William Yeoward.

Our Vision

By acknowledging and respecting the architecture of the house – designed by two different parties and intentionally contrasting in style – we created an interior that transitions naturally between the spaces.
